Making Strides Reimaged in 2020 Hosted at Walden Galleria
— American Cancer Society of WNY to host annual breast cancer fundraising event at shopping center —

Buffalo, NY: The American Cancer Society of Western New York is inviting all community members to Drive to Make Strides by signing up to participate in this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event, at Walden Galleria, located on the lower level of the parking ramp near Regal Cinemas, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17th.

New this year, the Society is excited to partner with cityHUNT to bring all the fun, camaraderie, and celebration of Making Strides – from the comfort of your own neighborhood. Each Making Strides team that raises $500 will receive a free cityHUNT scavenger hunt experience – pinked out with fun clues encouraging you to solve trivia, take pictures, make videos and celebrate breast cancer survivors.

“Cancer hasn’t stopped, and neither has the work of the American Cancer Society. We continue to engage with people where they live their lives, serving patients as we attack cancer from every angle through research, education, advocacy, and patient services,” noted JoAnna Jacob, executive director for the American Cancer Society,” said JoAnna Jacob, Executive Director for American Cancer Society Inc. “Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in American women. We must not let COVID-19 impact our ability to support people in every community who have been affected by breast cancer, whether they’re currently dealing with a diagnosis, may face one in the future, or will avoid it altogether because of education and risk reduction.”

Making Strides raises money to fund innovative breast cancer research; provides education and guidance to help people reduce their risk; and offers comprehensive patient support to those who need it most.

“The American Cancer Society has never faced a threat to its mission like COVID-19. The pandemic has severely reduced our fundraising revenue and forced us to take significant cost-saving measures, which have included cuts to both non-personnel and personnel expenses. Yet, as the largest non-government funder of cancer research in the United States, we have remained committed to leading the fight for a world without cancer,” Jacob added.

In addition to the normal excitement and energy that exist at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, this year’s event will include a special Tribute Garden, giving people the opportunity to celebrate those who have successfully beat cancer, while showing support for those currently battling the disease and honoring those we have lost.

You can join the movement by signing up to save lives at MakingStridesWalk.org/buffalo. ACS asks those who plan on attending Saturday’s event to please follow social distancing guidelines, remain in their vehicles, and wear masks when outside at designated points.

Jacob stated, “We are so very grateful to all of the individuals, families, and corporations who continually stand with us in our fight against breast cancer through their support of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. We are especially grateful to this year’s national Presenting Sponsor AVON, our media sponsors WYRK, Power 93.7, 96.1 The Breeze, Jack 92.9, Buffalo News REFRESH, and WKBW-TV, and corporate sponsors William Mattar Law Offices, Fuccillo Toyota of Grand Island, and NYSUT.”
